October 12, 2010 Well, the final round of the Superior Propane SOAR Superbike Series is now upon us - Round Six! We have an awesome weekend of racing and fun ahead of us. Superior Propane SOAR Superbike Series welcomes the Women's Cup Challenge, running in conjunction with our Formula Femme Class. July 27, 2010 Round Three Race Report The weather started out pretty shaky on Friday with torrential rains, but thankfully, cleared for a great Saturday and Sunday. With the Parts Canada round taking place the same weekend at Mosport, we were unsure how many riders we would attract. As it turned out, it was our biggest event so far in 2010 - with full grids in all classes. Racing started Saturday with the second round of the Superior Propane SOAR Endurance Series. Bringing home top honours in GTO was the team of Ross Milson and Blaine Groves aboard a well prepared Suzuki GSXR1000. However the talk of the pits was the GTU team Off Suit Racing's Joe and Michelle O'Hara and Dan Dubeau riding a dedicated Suzuki SV650 endurance bike. After three hours the race came down to the final lap with Team Off Suit beating Three Toed Racing's Jeff Waller, Peter Conn and Cameron Hoffman on an immaculate Yamaha OWO1 prepared by Lou Zemon. Off Suit Racing's victory came in no small part by the ironman riding of Joe O'Hara, who ran a stint of one hour and forty minutes, keeping the lead for Off Suit. Sunday started off with a bang with the Velocity Sportsgear Novice 600 Extreme. The race saw a huge battle between Johnny Spinelli, Amzy Nawaz, Luke Bauer, Dan Sippel, and Rick Goertz. The eventual winner, Nawaz, inherited the lead after Spinelli crashed out bumping Bauer to second as Sippel took the final podium spot. The new class, Uber Racing NuSpeed saw a constant growing field. The race was won by Brandon Park aboard a Kawasaki Supermoto machine edging out Seth VanDongen's Pirelli sponsored Honda CBR125, followed by Brad Feeney's Kawasaki Ninja 250, who overcame a nasty crash in round two. The ever popular Gecko Forwarding Rookie Challenge lived up to its reputation with a knock 'em down; drag 'em out, battle - all the way through the thirty bike field. The eventual winner, Kris Garvie was protested and subsequently disqualified, lifting first time winner, Michelin shod, Bart DeRosa of WNY to the top of the box. Closely following was Ed Rudkowski and Turn2's Bentley Thistlethwaite taking the final podium spot. Turn 2 sponsored Formula Femme saw a larger field than expected and the ladies put on a great show. The eventual winner was Sunny Park, who the day earlier competed at Mosport. She packed up after her race on Saturday at Mosport to drive to TMP to compete with SOAR on Sunday. Second place went to Sarah Bevan who was recovering from a serious injury received at Shannonville a month earlier. Third place went to first year racer Jennifer Roth. Novice Superbike picked up a new class sponsor this round. Northknight Logistics of Niagara Falls NY stepped up to sponsor both the class as well as post top-three prize money. The rider who took home the biggest share was Kris Garvie aboard his ex-Szoke factory Kawasaki ZX6R with a very quick Brian Kamp in second and newcomer Amzy Nawaz bringing up third - showing that he will be a force to be reckoned with. Lost Era Lightweight has a new challenger that has kept his Kawasaki ZX6 long enough to become Lost Era eligible. Andrew Westbrook ran away with the win followed by last years champ, Dan Dubeau's Honda F3 - chased by eventual third Abdul Almani on his Honda F4. GTAMotorcycles.com BOTT lightweight was a mix-mash of very different eligible machines up front. The ever fast RJ Hrevnak with his Suzuki SV650 up front followed by Louey Jabouri riding a supermoto bike. Bringing up the final podium spot was young gun Eden O'Shell riding a 125GP machine - after an earlier crash in practice. The great payouts and prizes provided by Dunlop and Pro6 are a great incentive for the Pro6 Dunlop Challenge, where all competitors compete on a spec Dunlop tire. After leading most of the race, Kris Garvie was relegated to second after a daring pass by Johnny Spinelli in the final laps, followed closely by Dan Sippel. The Expert 600 Extreme was up next with winner Mike Bevan riding his wife's Yamaha R6, followed by Luke Bauer and Amzy Nawaz. The 600 Extreme as well as the Superbike races have the top six novices granted a provisional expert license for the day to compete in the expert race. A chance to steal some of the prize money…. if they can. Another fan favorite is Clarington Cycle sponsored Old Boy's Club. While maybe older in years, they are certainly not slowing down. Led to the line by Bridgestone backed Billy Shields, followed by Dan Sippel and Ed Rudkowski. Novice Open Sprint saw a terrific race long battle between Jeffery Hy of NY and eventual winner, Brian Kamp with Rob Brush finishing up the podium. The final race of the weekend was the Orion Motorsports sponsored Expert Superbike. Once again, won by Mike Bevan aboard his wife's Yamaha R6 (when his bike blew the engine). Provisional expert Kris Garvie edged out James Perrault's Squidskins sponsored Honda CBR1000RR. This round was the one year anniversary of the passing of my friend and a founding supporter of SOAR, Steve Shreeve. We marked the occasion and his memory, with a BBQ and corn roast on Saturday evening. It was attended by well over 100 people. Music was DJ'd by John Reed. A great fireworks show was put on by Paul Rosemond later that night. Sunday, at lunch hour, we ran what will be an annual event - The Steve Shreeve Speeed Challenge for pitbikes and scooters. There were points given for costume, age, rider changes and of course stops at the "Snack Table". It was contested by over twenty teams and a great time was had by all. The overall winner was Paul Rogers with his great "Rasta Racer" costume. Thanks to all for helping us remember a great person and friend. Introducing the Steve Shreeve Memorial Speeed Challenge, in honour of our good friend Steve Shreeve. The Speeed Challenge is a pitbike/scooter race that will take place at lunchtime on Sunday July 11, 2010. Bikes are limited to 50 cc 2 stroke or 110cc 4 stroke 6 laps on the short course June 18, 2010 Results and point standings have now been posted! May 18, 2010 The 2010 Superior Propane SOAR Superbike Series is off and running…….. or shall I say swimming! May saw the single, worst weather at a race weekend that I have ever witnessed in my 20+++ years of involvement with this sport. Friday was wet and miserable for the entire day. Saturday came and went even worse, with constant 120km winds and torrential rains coupled with temperatures slightly above 0 and at one time, even hail. In the end, Sunday was chilly, but clear, and our weekend finished on a positive note. With all this bad, came some awesome racing and the SOAR family rose above and put on a great show. We saw some amazing races that included our revived Formula Femme class. The ladies were showing the fast way around TMP and after a brief red flag, a real drag race ensued with Sunny Park just holding off a very quick Sarah Bevan. We also ran our first ever Uber Racing NuSpeed class for youngsters. The third installment from the Vu family (Charly), placed on the top of the box, just ahead of Seth Van Dongen. We are hoping that when parents see how we run this class - and that we do everything possible to give these kids a safe place to learn - they will include their own young racers and we make NuSpeed a hit. We have a brand new crop of Rookies and the Gecko Forwarding Rookie Challenge is shaping up to be a continuation of the amazing races we saw in 2009. SOAR has also contracted the professional teachers of Turn 2 Sportbike School. They have taken over our classroom sessions for new racers. Mike, Johnny and Bentley did a great job with a full house of new SOAR racers. SOAR is glad to be affiliated with a great organization such as Turn 2. The June Round will soon be upon us and what a weekend it will be. It will be the first time EVER that a race has been done in a counter-clockwise direction. We ran backwards at our practice day in April with a chicane and a modified first turn. The feedback was quick and positive, so we are moving forward with the reverse weekend. June will also see SOAR hosting the first round of the WCC - Womens Cup Challenge in addition to our now infamous Lemans Start Endurance Series. Racer5 will be running their inaugural Racer5 cup race, where all participants will be on the Racer5 spec bikes. This should prove to be some tight racing and we are looking forward to it. Come out and set the new open lap records. A quick note to all our Endurance racers. You may want to pre-register as it is looking that we will sell out of spots and are limited to 35 teams. When that number is reached, we close entries for that race. So get your entry in to avoid disappointment. To all sprint riders, you may also want to speed your day up at registration by pre-registering. It makes the process faster and smoother for all involved. Any people wanting to take our qualification school must register ahead of time as we need to know how many instructors we will need for the day. All registration forms are available here in our forms section. Our forms will be editable and updated by the May Long Weekend for you to fill out online and Email to our offices. We will post a notice here in the NEWS section once the new forms are ready. June has all the elements to become a stellar race weekend and one not to be missed.
